Great meal and fantastic selection of beers!! We decided to check out Hilltop Tavern for the first time while in town for a friend's graduation ceremony at University of Iowa. Everyone enjoyed their meals which which included a wide variety of selections; zings, burgers, cod fish and breaded tenderloin. If you're looking for a local place to enjoy good food and drinks give this place a try!

this is what a neighborhood spot should be. Laid back, friendly, good food and brew. I hope it never loses this ambiance due to Linda K. and crew. One of those little gems of the northside.

Great atmosphere, Great Food, Great Service! We split "Zings" and they were really good. Had a great time & we'll be back!

This place fits the bill perfectly. It knows what it's trying to be and it does a great job of being exactly that! I came in here on a Saturday night before a marathon, so I was looking for some carbs (beer) and a laid back meal. The fact that it was a Cubs bar was only a bonus!
I sat at the bar and got great service the entire time. There was a pretty solid crowd, everyone seemed to know everyone else, something that I like about local spots. I purposely wanted to avoid the busy downtown/college scene! I had wings and loaded fries. They were both fine, but nothing special. There was a good beer selection, but none of the interesting ones were on tap...just cans & bottles.
I don't know that I'll ever be back in Iowa City, but if I am, this is where I'll be! -

I love the Hilltop! What a neat little spot that's just separated enough from downtown not to get totally mobbed during happy hour time. I stopped in on Saturday to grab some food and a pint, and I could not have had a better experience.
They're cash-only, but have an ATM if you're like me and hardly ever have cash on you anymore, so don't worry!
I ordered a brew and split the 1lb fried appetizer basket with some pals, which included fries, jalepeño poppers, onion rings, cheese curds, and fried mushrooms with a side of ranch. The service here was great, and we were not only greeted immediately when we got there, but were checked on multiple times once we moved to the back room to spread out a bit.
Looking forward to coming back and trying out a few more appetizers on their menu.
